Internship in CTO Advisory consulting – Coding with AI, new frontiers of development for companies

Companies and individuals are being hit full force by the artificial intelligence revolution, and notably generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) offering a unique capacity for content creation.

Its capabilities have rapidly expanded to code generation, thereby allowing for a significant optimization of software development time. From personal use to enterprise products, AI is now present in a large part of the developer's activities.

Just like other professions in creation (notably artistic), the developer profession is thus being radically impacted by the rise of these technologies.

Thus, this internship must provide answers to the following issue:

Artificial intelligence in software development: what opportunities for companies?

The study phase

Attached to the Swiss office of Wavestone, the objective of the internship is to study the use cases and impacts of AI-based functionalities, and more specifically generative AI, regarding the activities of the developer in the company.

Preparatory work:

The beginning of the internship will be marked by a scoping note aiming to precisely define the outlines of the study and the research issue(s), drawing on the existing market and subject knowledge provided by Wavestone. Furthermore, the scoping note aims to align the expectations of the Wavestone firm with the internship deliverable(s).

We propose an internship structured around the following objectives:

1. Study of AI use cases in development activities:

• Identification of use cases and typology of functionalities offered by AI for developers; code generation, code review and optimization, vulnerability identification, solution design, …

1. Study of expected gains, impacts and risks associated with the use of AI services in companies:

• Determine metrics for measuring expected gains and prioritize AI use cases for development according to these metrics
• Identify risks related to the nature of AI services (e.g.: data leakage, intellectual property, backdoor on the internal network, …)
• Identify risks related to the nature of activities performed by AI (e.g.: algorithmic sub-optimization, side effect (unexpected behavior), loss of control/technical knowledge of developed solutions, maintenance and scalability, …)
• Identify impacts related to the transformation of activities and roles in the company (e.g.: modification of developer activities, transformation of teams and operational model, …)

1. Design solutions and best practices regarding the adoption of AI services in software development activity:

• Based on the inventory of use cases and risks, determine a prioritization for the adoption of use cases for the company and the measures to be taken to mitigate the risks and impacts of the transformation

1. Evaluate designed solutions and best practices against market and company realities:

• Using knowledge of the different environments of Wavestone's clients, determine market trends, expected and measured results. Evaluate this empirical data against the solutions and best practices designed in the previous objective.

1. Contributions to the consulting firm

As an intern consultant, you will also be required to contribute to the operational missions of our clients.

• Support for the development of our CTO Advisory expertise: contribution to prospecting actions and the development of commercial proposals
• Production of actor radars aiming to better understand the responsible digital actors
• The production of materials aiming to acculturate and initiate other firm employees to the concepts of responsible digital
• Participation in company events: afterworks, recreational activities and organized outings, meetings of market actors etc.
